Dr. Morris Belanger is the presiding veterinarian at the Manitoba Road Animal Hospital. He was born and raised in North Bay, Ontario, the son of a heavy equipment mechanic with Imperial Oil Limited. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Honours Biology from the University of Waterloo in 1975. He then went onto work as a field biologist in a number of different roles in fish and wildlife, in the environmental field, and in forest products industry. He returned to the University of Guelph in 1984 and was admitted to the Ontario Veterinary College in 1985, graduating in 1989 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
He worked in several private practices and the Halton-Wentworth Emergency Veterinary Clinic in Hamilton over the next several years. In the fall of 1991 he purchased the Espanola Animal Hospital and practiced as both a companion animal and a farm service veterinarian. He obtained additional training early in his career in various modalities of orthopedic surgery, diagnostic ultrasound and telemedicine.
After five years, and in response to overwhelming requests from a large number of clients from Elliot Lake he established the Manitoba Road Animal Hospital at its present location in June of 1996.
After running both hospitals, the decision was made to sell the Espanola Animal Hospital in April 2007 to an auxiliary. He continues to practice in this location today as a small animal practitioner with a special interest in orthopedic surgery. He also continues to provide several horse farms with equestrian service.
Dr. Belanger moved to Elliot Lake in 1999 where he currently resides.
